Day 18: CSS Values and Units

I learned about different CSS values and units today.  For example, although CSS is capable of understanding millimeters, centimeters, and inches, CSS incorporates some units of measurement I hadn't been familiar with before, such as picas, points, and pixels (I knew what a pixel was, though).  Millimeters, centimeters, and inches are not intended for web design because they are highly dependent on the output medium.  Picas (1 pc is equal to 12 points, or 1/6 of an inch) and points (1 pt is equal to 1/72 of an inch) are also not really intended for web design (intended for print), so that leaves pixels!

Regarding Pixels:

An interesting thing to note is that when using pixels as a unit of measurement, our work will not scale for various media (such as mobile).  A pixel is also the smallest unit of screen design, because it is the smallest unit a screen can display.  A pixel is 1/96 of 1 inch.
