I decided to go with only 8 portfolio pieces, because I don't think people that look at my portfolio will actually go through every piece I put up, and by putting only 8 pieces, the quality of the pieces is higher (I picked the best). It's a tactical decision.
Here's a pic:
So far so good. I'm at almost 6 hours of coding today, I spent some time deciding between which projects to include in the portfolio, and then upgrading the project I decided to include. The weather project was the last one, it's basic, but it shows API skills and responsive design skills, so it'll do.
Also, keep in mind I can always replace the projects I've included so far with newer projects as my skill set widens, for example, after I learn React. Perhaps I'll have a "Front End Projects" section and then a "Back End Projects" section as well.
I bought a domain name for the portfolio I'm constructing, it'll be www.adamcamacho.com. Once I finish the site, I'll deploy it, but the domain and the hosting is taken care of now.
All right, so the next part of this project is to design the "About" page and the "Contact" page. I could also merge the two in an "About & Contact" page.
So let me do some research and look around at nice example of about me pages so I can get some inspiration, and then I'll get to it.
All right, I'm still going strong today, working on the "About" page. I'm going to take a break now to grab a bite. Here's what it looks like, but the profile image is too big (I'll make it smaller) and the css is not complete, this is a bare bones list, lots more work to do:
And if you scroll down the page, there's a list:
All right, I'm at 8 hours of coding today, taking a break to grab dinner, I'll be back in a bit. Here's a modification I made, smaller pic:
And that div with the pic fades out when the user scrolls up also. I'm calling it a day, I'm in for 9.5 hours today, and I could keep going, but I just had a giant meal, so I'll use that to my advantage to fall asleep on time today. Check out my productivity-tracker for today (I have a subscription to RescueTime):
The 73 means that I spent 73% of the hours I logged on the computer today, 14 hours and 5 minutes, on coding. I think that includes productive and very productive time, but I only count very productive time for the purpose of my coding time tracker at the bottom of each blogger post. So, for example, linkedin is productive, but it's not "very" productive, at least at the moment (coding is). Now, later on, once I'm looking for a job, perhaps I'll change linkedin to be very productive, but right now, I'm focused on coding itself, so while linked in is productive, it's not my focus, so I don't credit myself coding hours for time spend on it.
I just thought I'd explain a bit of how I measure my productivity and how RescueTime works. I recommend it if you want something to track your productive time, especially if you work from home or if you're your own boss.
Anyhow, today was a great day.
